So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines all aspects of the page's content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it's a good match for your query.

Google searches more sites more quickly, delivering the most relevant results.

[Search engine optimization and Online marketing] PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important."

Search Engine Rankings & Customer Conversions

SEO Tipshttp://spaces.msn.com/members/prabhjot [SEO Tips] The words that are visible to people reading the page are the key element that search engine spiders use to determine what your page is about. Once the engine knows what the page is about, they can show that page to people who are searching for the words found on that page. That sounds pretty simplistic, but it's amazing how many pages only contain a picture and a few words, or flash animations, or other non-text items.

Google Sitemaps

[jpatrickm.com] This is a great way to fast-track the spidering of your site content. As always, Google doesn't guarantee inclusion of your site or your content, but this is definitely a no brainer on getting your pages looked at. There are a couple of ways to submit a sitemap to Google: their recommended format is XML but you can also submit a text file with a single URL in each line. They also offer a Sitemap Generator script, but you need to be familiar with uploading and executing scripts on your web server before diving into that.

New Article Looks at SEO "Gone Bad"

http://blog.searchenginewatch.com/blog [Search Engine Watch Blog] But my complaint is that this is something that you don't want everybody to know about, because you know that it's deceitful, and it's not about providing value for people. It's not about providing a great information resource that will be the #1 site on the Web. It's about flooding the Web with crap, and in that sewage, [they're] going to bury everyone else. That's my main concern.

Keyword Density in Your Web Site

Lockergnome's Web Developershttp://channels.lockergnome.com/web [Lockergnome's Web Developers] Keyword density is a combination of the number of times a keyword or a keyword phrase, in proportion with other words, appears on a Web page. The more times the keyword appears in relation to the total number of on page words, the greater the overall keyword density. The more times that other words appear, the lower the proportion of keywords, resulting in a lighter keyword density.

Google Patent Application - Seo Highlights

[Search engine optimization and Online marketing] In a new twist, Google claims that it analyzes the number of years of domain registration as part of the ranking process. The application suggests that domains that are registered for longer periods of time are given more value because such a commitment shows the site is not a fly-by-night jump page. It is recommended that you extend all domain registrations for as long as possible as part of your search engine optimization efforts.

How and when should I submit my website to Google?

The Pheedster SEO/SEM and Beyond Blog. . .[The Pheedster SEO/SEM and Beyond Blog. . .] With an estimated 8.8 billion pages indexed (approximately 76% of the Internet), Google is number 1 when it comes to search engines. It’s argued that once Google has indexed your site, the other search engines will follow. Theoretically, you don’t actually need to submit your site to Google either because it’s always on the lookout for new content and will eventually find your site of its own accord. Google actually states, “Given the large number of sites submitting URLs, it’s likely your pages will be found in an automatic crawl before they make it into our index through the URL submission form.” (“Google Information for Webmasters” - http://www.google.com.au/webmasters/1.html#A1) Personally, I wouldn’t like to take the risk.)

GoogleGuy Shares Advice About Bourbon Update

http://blog.searchenginewatch.com/blog [Search Engine Watch Blog] Here's the advice that I'd give now: take a break from checking ranks for several more days. Bourbon includes something like 3.5 improvements in search quality, and I believe that only a couple are out so far. The 0.5 will go out in a day or so, and the last major change should roll out over the next week or so. Then there will still be some minor changes after that as well.

[SMM] Search Engine Optimization, Montreal, 2005 - SEO In The Here And Now

[BPWrap - Internet Marketing From A Different Point Of View] All search engines have Terms of Service, which specify what websites they will index in their databases. In summary, these TOS's require that the web pages presented to their spiders or robots are exactly those seen by their human visitors. The search engine robots are constantly surfing the Internet, following links from one web page to another, and cataloguing the content of these web pages. By clever programming, it is possible to show a different web page to the robot than is seen by a human visitor.
