Redirecting Visitors - An Update
[Webdiva] For example Redirect /contact.html http://www.webdiva.co.uk/about-me/contact-me meant that anywhere on my site a visitor tried to access /contact.html they would be redirected to http://www.webdiva.co.uk/about-me/contact-me even if they were trying to use for example /blog/contact.html. In future, I will need to carefully consider the redirects that I make, using one contact file for my various directories but perhaps offering the visitor a way to identify which part of my site they are referring to.

Tech.Memorandum: A good thing?
[Tech.Life.Blogged] This isn't necessarily a bad thing but it would be good for these bloggers (I include myself as I rethink these things) to bring something new, be it a different opinion or an insite that others haven't grasped yet, to the conversation. Additionally, those long tail topics are a good source of material because they are the ones that aren't linked to as much so the whole blogosphere isn't talking about them so your content isn't as diluted.

Unethical methods in SEO
[Search engine optimization and Online marketing] As search engines operate in a highly automated way it is often possible for webmasters to use methods and tactics not approved by search engines to gain better ranking. These methods often go unnoticed unless an employee from the search engine manually visits the site and notices the activity, or a change in ranking algorithm causes the site to lose the advantage thus gained.

What Is Web 2.0
[ SEO Black Hat] While the term is overused, it seems (to me) important to understand the evolution of thought and business practice on the Internet. Tim OReilly does a nice job of covering the difference between Web 1.0 and 2.0: The core competencies of Web 2.0 companies: Services, not packaged software, with cost-effective scalability Control over unique, hard-to-recreate data sources that get richer as more people use them Trusting users as co-developers Harnessing collective intelligence Leveraging the long tail through customer self-service Software above the level of a single device Lightweight user interfaces, development models, AND business models Another blogger who continually turns out impressive work relating to Web 2.0 is Nivi.
