Latest Google PR/Backlink update is odd
[SEO Tips] Google's latest PageRank and Backlink update started on June 22, 2004 and had finished propogating across the datacenters on June 23, 2004. While most people reported normal changes, with a rise in backlinks corresponding to a rise in PR, there were some reports (myself included) of large increases in backlinks, with a decline in PR.
Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.
[The diary of a slightly off centre internet marketer...] Web Design: Finished!: As you know we already have a Google PR of 4 on just about all pages and this was with no on page stuff and very few backlinks to the site! So anyway I expect a PR6 from Google in a couple months at least! I have a staff member (Adam) who is doing nothing else but finding good backlinks for me every day!
[Autism Blog Web Design Blog] Latent Semantic Indexing And Google: Interestingly all three of these major updates are only really indicative of what Google are planning when examined together. Florida removed a lot of sites from Googles overall index. Austin out some back (people speculate that Florida went a bit further than even Google expected and Austin was an attempt to pull things back a little) and now Brandy seems to have reinstated almost all sites –
[Prweaver.com] Search Engines News: Brian has been one of the most crucial elements to the success of Mozilla software over the past few years, with his work all over the Mozilla code - I remember him first adding mousewheel support back in 2000, then moving with tenacity into many other areas of code. Over the past few years Brian has been invaluable to Gecko development, working on many areas that have resulted in performance improvements and new features, while also having time to work on application level features such as the Linux installer, GNOME integration and the password manager. Great to have you on board!
[Blogbusinessworld.blogspot.com] Blog Business World - Marketing, Public Relations, Search Engine ...: The PageRank importance has declined over time as well, so chasing PageRank is less important than adding theme relevant inbound links. Keep in mind that relevant on page content of your blog or website is even more important than PageRank. If adding more PageRank remains a priority, strong content will attract high PageRank theme relvant links in its own right.
[Petertdavis.net] Small Business Blog » Why Google Shows Low PR Pages in Backlinks: I just heard something interesting from someone attending the WMW convention this week. He said there was a guy from Google, Matt Cutts, at one of the sessions who was commenting on the recent change in the way Google shows backlinks. Apparantly, Google change it to show more low PR backlinks to give lower ranking sites more backlink exposure apparantly in attempt to move webmasters away from the idea that high PR links are the end-all.
