More Hidden Links
[Adventures in Net Marketing - my adventures in Web publishing and affiliate marketing, with ebook and software reviews, and oth] I just received my Linking Matters newsletter from Ken McGaffin, and he has something very interesting to report. In doing competitive linking analysis for a client, he discovered that the Financial Times is, for some reason, using hidden links on its site.
Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.
[Aaron Wall's SEO Book.com] Hidden Links on Financial Times Website. WTF?: It will be interesting to see how Google deals with the hidden links. Something tells me they are not going to delist FT, although I could be wrong. As this type of shady link activity spreads it will require search engines to place more weight on click stream data, editorial review data, and user data.
[Linkingmatters.com] What Makes a Quality Link Target?: Such links are valuable only for the traffic that they bring: they will not help your search engine rankings in any way. The most simple of these is the 'no follow' tag, agreed by the major search engines to prevent 'blog spamming'.
